Hi everyone,

Thanks for visiting my page.

My name is Shiv, I’m 16 years old and this summer I am challenging myself and raising money for the British Heart Foundation. As of now, heart and circulatory diseases are responsible for 1 in every 4 deaths in the UK and, according to the WHO, ischaemic heart disease (heart problems caused by narrowed arteries e.g. coronary heart disease) is both the single leading cause of death worldwide but also the cause of death that has seen the greatest increase from 2000 to 2019. These truly are shocking statistics which demonstrate the scale of the problem.

However I know personally that these are so much more than statistics and each death is so much more than just another number for the tally as, having lost both of my grandfathers to heart attacks, I was robbed of the opportunity to cultivate the relationship with my grandparents that so many children cherish throughout their lives and witnessed first hand the void the deaths left in both sides of my family. As a result, supporting the British Heart Foundation means a lot to me because they fund research in all areas of heart and circulatory diseases, finding new treatments/ cures and saving Iives. I want to do all that I can to ensure that other people do not suffer the same heartbreak.

To this end, I am taking up the challenge of cycling 1000 km in one week to raise as much money as possible. Even though I am a keen cyclist, this will be quite the physical challenge as it equates to riding roughly 144 km per day for 7 consecutive days and I will be riding outdoors (not on an indoor trainer) in Richmond Park/ SW London/ Surrey so will be at the mercy of any wind/ weather conditions and hills that come my way...

My plan is to start on 13/08/21, post my GCSE results :), and finish by 19/08/21.....

My aim is to cycle 1000 km in 1 week....

My target is to raise £2000 or more....

Please donate and remember that no amount is too little. If you are not in a position to donate, please share this fundraiser amongst others.

Thanks for your donation!
