Story

For those who don't know us, we are Callum and Sean who will be participating in the Lake District 100k Ultra Challenge in June 2024. We completed the Jurassic coast 100km challenge in May 2022 over 2 days but this time.... we will do it in 24 hours with no rest!

As many of you know, none of us are runners or endurance athletes, however, whether we run, walk or crawl we will be finishing this challenge as it is for extremely important cause.

Callum sister Shonagh has sadly passed away after battling rare Stage 4 Bowel Cancer.

Here is her story:

"Hi Everyone!

My name is Shonagh and very recently I was diagnosed with Stage 4 advanced bowel cancer… Whenever I have to write that down or tell anyone new it always feels so surreal given that it’s probably one of the worst things a person can be told, however right now although I have accepted the current situation, I’m so unbelievably positive that I’m not done that I just know everything will be okay!

One thing I do know right now is that anyone with a cancer diagnosis needs a few concrete things to help get them through… Family – Being surrounded by your loved ones who support you is everything; Friends – Having those you love close by makes it all better; Hospital – Having a great team at a great hospital who you trust gives you confidence that everything possible is being done… And this is where The Royal Marsden comes in for me.

Although I’m still at the beginning of a very long journey (long being the operative word as I plan on being around for a while yet!! 😉) I already know that the team at The Royal Marsden are incredible and that I am in very good hands…

By raising money for The Royal Marsden we will all be helping to:

  • Support life-saving research - including funding clinical trials that give patients at the hospital, across the UK and around the world access to the latest breakthrough drugs.
  • Offer patients world-leading treatment and care - delivering tailored and personalised treatment, which cares for the whole person, not just their illness.
  • Invest in state-of-the-art equipment - from the latest in robotic surgery, to improved cancer imaging to ensure more effective and efficient diagnosis and treatment.

I would absolutely love to have your support in anyway you can… Whether that is by donating, sharing this page or even joining the last 10k in person – The more the merrier!!

Lots of Love xx"

We are raising money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, as this world leading Cancer Hospital was with Shonagh every step of the way in her fight against this rare disease. This is our small way of saying a huge thank you to not only the staff working with Shonagh but all of the individuals associated with The Royal Marsden Hospital
