Alloa Half · 20 March 2022

OYCI is a youth led organisation, we work with 10 - 18 year olds in Clackmannanshire helping them to develop confidence, resilience and skills. We do this by helping them to create positive change in their community, and in their lives. We support them to develop projects to address the issues they care about and to enhance their community. Working together on these projects helps them gain skills & confidence and make new friends.

Story

We are running the Alloa Half Marathon to raise much needed funds for OYCI.

Shona says...

"I started out with OYCI as a wee project in 2016 and from that starting point I have been there every step of the way over the last 5 years.  Now we are a registered charity with our own premises and over 100 young people signed up!  It’s been quite a journey and I am constantly amazed at where we are and at all the young people who have fun with us and enjoy what we do. Training for the half has been tough, I did the Alloa Half 4 years ago but haven’t raced since so it’s been quite a personal challenge for me – mainly I run with my dog Teddy in harness (see picture!) – he’s been my training buddy but sadly isn’t allowed to be part of the race so instead I am hoping lots of lovely people will not only sponsor us but shout encouragement on the route!  Everything we do for young people is free to them, but it costs money to run and at this point it’s so important for us to raise our own funds to support the charity.  If you can give anything at all it is much appreciated."

Niki says...

"As a member of the OYCI Board, I have the privilege of seeing all the incredible activities and the opportunities that are offered to our local young people for free. Whether these involve drama clubs, youth leadership programmes, computer coding, learning about the local area and its history or one of the many other activities that are offered, there is no doubt these build confidence and enrich lives. Even through lockdown, OYCI found ways to get creative to support the community at a time when it was really needed. Like any charity, fundraising is a key part of making sure we can continue to do this going forwards. I'm delighted to be running in the Alloa Half Marathon with Shona, a fantastic local race, to help raise funds and awareness of all the amazing work OYCI does for our community. If you're able to support us in any small way to ensure that we can keep providing such beneficial services for all that would be amazing. Thank you.
