Story
While I have dabbled in cycling on occasions in the past, it
is fair to say that I’m not much of a cyclist.
However, this year I will be doing Ride100 (a 100 mile cycle
ride from London to Surrey and back). I’ll be honest, I agreed to do it back in 2017 for a challenge, but earlier this year a colleague’s wife died from Breast Cancer and HTA Rouleurs aka the HTA Cycling club (which I’ve joined) decided to ride as a team for Breast Cancer Care.
We have chosen this charity as they provided amazing support
for my colleague and his family during his wife’s illness. Their services
include helplines, apps, support groups and campaigning to improve care for women (and men who are also affected by the disease) who are at various stages of living with the disease, as well as their families.
We probably all know someone directly affected either
through diagnosis or who has had a close family member or friend affected by it. My own experience is fairly close to home with women on both sides of my family being diagnosed or have passed away.
My target is £550. As much as I’ll moan the whole way through, it’s for a fantastic cause and I’ll be doing my absolute best to finish, but I need your help!
Please can you help me with a bit of fundraising. Every little helps.
I met a rep from the charity and he will be giving me a breakdown of what your donation can actually pay for. Here is a breakdown on how your donation could help:
-
£10 could give 10 people with breast cancer the vital answers
they need right now by funding 10 invaluable information resources.
-
£30 could help a person affected by breast cancer the specialist
information and support they need when they need it most through our Helpline.
-
£90 could help someone through one of the most difficult challenges
they will ever face by funding a Living with Secondary Breast Cancer session.
-
£100 could give women who are struggling to get back to ‘normal’
somewhere to turn after their treatment, by funding a facilitator on a Moving
Forward course for four hours.
-
£225 could give 40 younger women with breast cancer the expert
support of a specialist younger women’s nurse for one day at a bespoke event.
-
£500 could allow a person with breast cancer to talk freely and
regularly over the phone with a trained volunteer who understands their
particular concerns.
