The Story

Assalaamualaykumwa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.

In summer 2018, together, as a group of friends, we (Shukr Reminders) decided we would jointly work towards multiple projects for the sake of Allah and to leave an impacting legacy.

We are now on our third project, and have decided to build two community wells and a water filtration plant. 

We have aimed to reach out to a wider community and especially reach out to those that wished to contribute, so they may also benefit and take inspiration.  With your help, together we can provide clean water to communities, a basic human right.

Unsafe water is the single biggest obstacle to the health of communities in the developing world. Small children are especially vulnerable to cholera and diarrheal illnesses, and unsafe water compromises their immune systems as well, making it difficult for them to fight any illness.

We use water for everything, from washing dishes to cooking food to growing crops. Allah says in the Qur’an, ‘By means of water, we give life to everything’. (Qur’an, 21:30) Communities who don’t have access to clean water face unimaginable hardships, with women and children walking for hours to collect even a little water, and families unable to support themselves due to lack of education and livelihood. Having access to safe water is a basic human right!

Water is a blessing from Allah (swt).

Help us to achieve this goal of building two community wells and a water filtration plant for the sake of Allah. This project is Zakat Eligible. 

As a group, this project is very close to our hearts and we intend to see this project through to the end.  Furthermore, we hope this inspires you to do the same or similar with your friends and family.

The Details

In collaboration with Muslim Hands, we'd like to build two community wells (locations to be confirmed, depending on logistics and ground support) and a water filtration plant in Pakistan.

The community wells will look to serve circa 1000 people (per well) and the filtration plant will serve circa 5000 people.

Hadith

Below is a beautiful hadith in providing water. 

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

Allah (mighty and sublime be He) will say on the Day of Resurrection: [...] O son of Adam, I asked you to give Me to drink and you gave Me not to drink. He will say: O Lord, how should I give You to drink when You are the Lord of the worlds? He will say: My servant So-and-so asked you to give him to drink and you gave him not to drink. Had you given him to drink you would have surely found that with Me. [Muslim]
