We raise awareness of cavernoma to improve the lives of people affected

Story

Last year, my brother Joe (a very fit and active 38 yr old firefighter) was admitted to hospital with a stroke caused by a cavernoma in the brain.

A cavernoma is a raspberry like formation of abnormal blood vessels which gradually leaked blood over several days causing the stroke. Joe has since made a very good recovery, but each year there is a 20-60% chance of a re-bleed, and there is no way of knowing what will trigger it or the severity.

Joe has now had Gamma Knife Surgery which should reduce the chance of a re-bleed 8 fold over 2 years, but there is no way of knowing if it has worked.

The Cavernoma Alliance UK have supported Joe with this relatively rare brain condition during these tough times.

On 27th April I am taking on this challenge to raise some money for this very worthy (and lesser known) charity. I have climbed Snowdon a few times, but never carrying a 17kg bike. The route up will be very steep rocky, and I will be riding down the same way - it is a Double-Black route in downhill mountain biking - very hard and dangerous, especially if wet!

I aim to complete the challenge as quickly as possible and under 3 hours, so i need to put some training in!

Any donation at all, will be greatly appreciated by myself, my brother and by CAUK.

Thanks very much in advance.

Si
