London Landmarks Half Marathon 2021 · 1 August 2021 ·

CMV Action is a UK organisation of parents and volunteers, who have come together to support families, to raise public awareness of congenital CMV, and campaign for better prevention measures within our health service. We offer advice, support and friendship to anyone affected by congenital CMV, advocating for families and working with a number of medical professionals who have an interest in this field.

Story

In March I will be running the London Landmarks half marathon. This has been something that I have wanted to do for a while but I have never quite mustered up the courage! I would like to raise some money along the way for a charity that is very close to my heart...CMV Action.

CMV, or Cytomegalovirus, is a common virus that can infect people of all ages. Once CMV is in a person’s body, it stays there for life. Most healthy adults and children who become infected will have no signs or symptoms and no long term effects from CMV.  It can however pose serious risks to unborn babies if a pregnant woman catches it for the first time. Congenital CMV is when a baby has been infected before birth. It is one of the leading causes of hearing loss in children and one of the main causes of childhood disability.

Someone very close to my heart suffers with congenital CMV and I want to make as much money as possible to help aid research into prevention of this awful virus.
