Most of you are aware that mine and Simon's youngest son Oliver has PHACE Syndrome. Specifically for Oli this has caused him to have abnormalities with his airway, lung, arteries that supply his brain and his heart. He has to, and will always have to, endure frequent hospital appointments and procedures and suffers with what we can only assume are migraines. The journey from diagnosis has been long and there have been lots of lows, however Oliver is exceeding what we could have ever imagined him achieving all those months ago. He has started nursery and is loving it, developing at an amazing rate but there is a permanent reminder of some of his more serious ongoing health problems in his constant barking cough and his struggle to keep up with his siblings and friends. He gets tired more easily and very out of breath. This is in part to his narrow airway, but also down to his heart now needing to be 'repaired'.

Next month, Oliver is due to be admitted to the Royal Brompton Hospital where he will undergo an aortic arch reconstruction under the care of the amazing Mr Ghez and his team. As an ex Brompton nurse I am more than aware of what a massive operation this is, and how strong Oli is going to have to be to get through. I am also very aware of how strong Simon and I are going to have to be and we will not only be relying on the support of our family and friends but also of the wonderful Brompton team.

It is for this reason that this year, we have decided to donate any money that we can raise to the Brompton Fountain. Please check out their webpage www.thebromptonfountain.org.uk to get a full idea of what they do but in brief they provide information to families, put people in touch with others in similar situations, hold fun and social events, improve the physical facilities and environment families have access to while in hospital and offer support to the siblings of children with heart and lung conditions.

Last year Simon, Danielle and myself raised over £1100 doing the 5k version of W.A.R which we donated directly to PHACE research at Great Ormond Street Hospital. We'd once again like to say a huge thank you to everyone that donated. This year we, and several other crazies, have stepped it up a notch and will challenge ourselves even further with the 10k and are hoping that we can raise more than we did before. That said, anything will be brilliant and very gratefully received so please share this page over and over ... hopefully we can just annoy people into donating!

Thank you x
