Brighton Marathon 2022 · 10 April 2022 ·

ALK-positive lung cancer is a rare disease that often affects younger non-smokers, many with young children. It is usually diagnosed at Stage 4, when there is no cure. We support, empower and advocate for best practice to improve the overall survival and quality of life of patients across the UK.

Story

This year I am running the Brighton Marathon because in September 2020 one of my oldest football buddies Jen Weller was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and I want to do what I can to help raise awareness.

Here is a little insight into her world since finding out her diagnosis at such a young age.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in September 2020, as a then 36 year old personal trainer, non smoker, non drinker, super fit healthy person! Unfortunately by the time I was diagnosed, because for a long time my only symptom was a long standing cough and we were already in the pandemic, my cancer was very advanced and prognosis is poor, just 1-2 years. I’ve decided to use that time to raise the profile of my cancer (ALK Positive Non Small Cell Lung Cancer) and the realisation that anyone with lungs can get lung cancer. It really doesn’t discriminate.

She has created WellerFest, A year of fundraising and awareness for Brain Tumour Research and ALK Positive UK by completing various sporting events and activities. Please give what you can and follow her social media pages via

Lets help Jen help others as she always has.
