Story

Anyone that has known me for some time knows the trials and tribulations we’ve been through with my poor mum’s health over the years. Stemming from a hit and run accident at just 17 years of age - my mum suffered years of misdiagnosis, needless operations and chronic pain until finally a neurosurgeon from UHW discovered that she had fractured her skull causing severe cranial nerve damage and trigeminal neuralgia. Over the years she has been at the forefront of neuroscience research even featuring in medical journals being one of the first people in Europe to have a neuro-stimulator implanted in the brain. I want to give something back to the very NHS team that are continuing to treat my mum today and others who are suffering. Their research covers neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and ADHD, major psychiatric disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s and Parkinson’s disease.
