Story
The Project
In 2017 I read a book about a humanitarian mission supporting the people living in the most dangerous areas of Syria. That story of resilience, focusing on a population living in a state of absolute fear and poverty, made me think thoroughly.
I felt I needed to do something to help those suffering the consequences of this terrible war. I approached Save the Children UK and discussed what I might do to assist the cause. Someone suggested the idea of a charity cookbook, and I thought that it would have been great to put together some dessert recipes from my birth-place, Sicily.
The aim of the cookbook "Sicilia Buona" is to raise money to help the Syrian children to have a better life. Even to provide them with a shelter, a blanket or a toy can make a real difference.

Children of Syria
Syria’s conflict has lasted longer than World War II. Inside Syria, an
estimated 7.5 million children are growing up knowing nothing but war,
deprivation and fear. Syria has been a living nightmare for children and families tormented by six years of war and unimaginable hardship. It underscores how critical the situation is - and how desperately help is needed.
The extreme trauma of war is leading not only to psychological scars,
but also developmental issues. 2 in 3 children are suffering a war-related loss (a loved one or their house). Half of them are not attending school anymore, missing out on critical learning, stability and social development. 1 in 4 children is at risk of severe mental health disorders, with potentially lifelong consequences.
It’s not too late to help these vulnerable children. As Save The
Children work in the field has shown, children are often able to recover
quickly, if given the right support.
Because every child, everywhere, deserves a future.
Your support
Syria’s children need help now to heal from the physical and emotional wounds of war. Here’s what your donation can provide:
£30
Could fund four post-natal medical visits for a new mother.
£60
Could buy two families of four heaters to keep them warm.
£100
Could buy one month's food for a family of six people.
Considering this, the overall proceeds deriving from the sale of the 200
copies of Sicilia Buona I printed could provide food to 30 people for an entire month, warm up the winter of 24 people, help 34 mothers to have a post-gestational recover.
Will you help me making this Christmas sweeter and fairer?
