Story
As with a lot of charities at the moment, the Firefighter's Charity is really struggling financially. The impact of the coronavirus can not be over stated and as a Brigade and more locally as a station, we here at Sidcup believe that it is only right that we offer our support in the charity's time of need, just as they have done to countless firefighters since they came into being in 1940. Back then they went by the name The London Fire Service Benevolent Fund and were formed to provide support to families of Firefighters who gave their lives during the Second World War.
That is the reason for our challenge being 1940 miles. We have set ourselves a challenge across all four watches here at Sidcup to complete 1940 miles in total between August and September. Over this 8 week period that equates to 485 miles per watch, and individually around 40 miles per person.
The miles will be completed in the gymnasium on station on any of the cardio based equipment we have in there (static bike, treadmill, rowing machine or cross trainer) and it is our aim to get out and about locally to complete some of this in public and try to raise some extra money through cash donations.
We really can not emphasise just how amazing this charity is and the work that they put in to providing assistance to Firefighters and their families in times of need. Now, in their time of need, it is only right that we offer them the assistance they so desperately need.
Any donation, however small, will no doubt be gratefully received.
