Silent N Gaming - Fathers Play!

Liam Nwanze is raising money for Barnardo's

Fathers Play! · 19 June 2021

When life gets tough or it feels like there's nowhere to turn, Barnardo's is here. We make sure children and young people feel safer, happier and more hopeful by directly supporting them with specialist services across the UK. We have been changing childhoods and changing lives for over 150 years.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Silent N Gaming is running an exciting charity event on Saturday 19th June (sessions @ 1200-1430 and 1500-1730) where we will raise money for Barnardo's - We're pleased to introduce... Fathers Play!.

On the eve of Fathers' Day, we're inviting parents (mums are also welcome to play) to our Bromley gaming hub to engage in some friendly competition, as they play in teams with and against their kids.

Players will compete in a virtual triathlon across the following three titles that almost anyone can pick up and play:

- Rocket League

- Super Smash Brothers

- Overcooked 2

For those wishing to compete, please message us beforehand on info@silentngaming.co.uk, so that we can reserve your place.

Our suggested donation for the event is £10 per parent/guardian & child team and £5 for spectators. Refreshments, tea, coffee and baked goods will also be available.

We will also stream the event to raise further contributions. We are also happy to accept video game-related items, which we can donate directly to Barnardo's or sell-on and donate the proceeds.

This is our first time trying such an event and depending on how it goes, we may make this an annual thing.

Why Barnardo's?

I am a regular donor to Barnardo's, who are a truly exceptional youth charity. This has been especially true in recent months. Through my day-job leading youth programmes for DCMS, I've seen how a lot of charities have helped young people through the pandemic and Barnardo's (among many others) has been doing great things to protect, support and nurture the UK's most vulnerable children. This included their 'See, Hear, Respond' programme, which during the pandemic provided:

- Access to an online support package to children and families ensuring they have readily available, accessible and interactive information;

- Online and telephone referral service by trained professionals who can source further help and support from charity workers within the partnership;

- Online counselling or therapy for those experiencing high levels of anxiety, trauma or other mental health issues that can be safely addressed through digital means;

- Youth interventions and face-to-face crisis support, particularly for those at risk of or experiencing various forms of exploitation.

Whether you wish to compete, watch (some overly competitive parents) or simply wish to donate to a great cause, your support is much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Liam
