Fundraising for Barts Charity
Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In a weeks time i'm heading off to Barcelona to start my biggest challenge yet on two wheels - Riding with a small group cycling nuts including my good friend Jim Cook who is coming all the way from Aus to endure the pain we'll be traversing 3 countries, starting in Barcelona, riding through France and ending up in Alba in Italy following in the great Hannibal's footsteps. En route I'll be tackling some of the toughest and most iconic climbs including Ventoux, Alpe d'Huez, Galibier and Izoard among others - in total 1558 KM and 24,968 meters of climbing over 2 weeks. Unfortunately, I won't have any elephants to help me along the way!
I'm doing this in memory of my late sister Julia who sadly lost her battle with Leukemia back in 2003. Julia was artistic, talented, warm-hearted and a very talented photographer who could always find beauty in what she saw. I know that Julia would have really appreciated some of the sights I will see on my journey and would have captured them perfectly through her lens but her life was cruelly cut short by a rare form of Leukemia just as her career was taking off aged only 33. Julia was treated at Barts and the research they are engaged in could have saved her life and the lives of many others.
I'm raising funds for Bart's hospital's Leukemia research labs as I feel our support for those who endeavor to tackle such an evil disease is crucial and should be ongoing. The labs are woefully underfunded and will suffer even more as a consequence of Brexit. Your support could be crucial in helping them find new therapies to treat Leukemia patients like Julia. Being part of this work could also mean that more patients will not have to undergo treatments which have severe side effects and potential consequences for their health in future years.
If you are kind enough to make a donation 100% of it will be spent on advancing our understanding of Leukaemia and finding better ways to help more people.
