Southend Half Marathon 2023 · 11 June 2023 ·

We provide free ECG screenings to young people (aged 14-35) in the Southend area to help detect any previously undiagnosed heart conditions. We also fund the installation of defibrillators in prime locations in the local community

Story

Having promised my knees after the last London Marathon I'd never run any further than the shops again, a friend asked if I'd be interested in 'one or two more' runs for a friends charity. It was impossible to say no after understanding what this charity does.

The charity was set-up in 2019 after the Founder unexpectedly & very sadly lost his Wife at just 35 to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS). Out of something so tragic came one positive- The Carli Lansley Foundation (carlilansleyfoundation.org.uk)

The charity's focus is simple:

1) to cover the cost of holding ECG screenings for young people aged 14-35 who may otherwise not have sufficiently swift access to one;

2) to fund public defibrillators.

Every Penny matters. Every Penny can be followed from donation to screening or defib unit. Any support, no matter the amount, will make a difference.

Finally, the challenge part. I'm having a crack at my PB (1.31.56) set about 20-years ago. If I beat it, I'll add a further donation myself. There's a chance...

As ever, thank you Everyone- you are amazing.

Simon
