Story

Thank you for taking a minute to visit my page.

In the UK, only 19 hospitals are best equipped to diagnose and treat young people with cancer. So, they often travel twice as far as adults with the same illness. On average children travel 60 miles. But there are families travelling hundreds of miles each time their child needs treatment. And what's concerning is that although nearly 70% of parents rely on loved ones for financial and practical assistance with travel, only 6% of families are entitled to assistance from the NHS. I believe this is wrong and needs to change.

The charity Please Take Me There is fundraising to set up a much-needed transport service to take the struggle out of travelling to hospital. The transport service will help children with cancer all around the UK to get easy access to treatment when they have to travel across the country or abroad. This means they will spend less time away from their homes, schools, families and friends.

If you are able, please help me to help Fernando and his colleagues continue their incredible work, supporting children and their families through the hardest times imaginable.

I'm attempting to ride from Land's End to John O' Groats in seven days, averaging 130 miles per day, with up to 10k ft of vertical ascent per day. This is a deliberately difficult challenge, designed to recognise the long and arduous journeys made by children and their families for essential medical treatment.

Importantly, ALL costs are already covered, so everything you donate goes straight to where it's needed. You are not funding my mid-life crisis/holiday! Not that it'll feel like much of a holiday as I haul my extra timber up the umpteenth hill of the day...

Any support you can give is so important, and very much appreciated.

Sincere thanks,

Simon
