Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

About 6-7 years ago my mum Brenda had a mini stroke which unfortunately transgressed into vascular dementia which is a common type of dementia caused by reduced blood flow to the brain.due to the stroke.

Symptoms of vascular dementia include confusion, slow thinking, lack of motivation , having no clarity on what time of the day it is and changes in your mood or behaviour. Unfortunately there is no cure for vascular dementia.

Fortunately her memory is still ok to a certain level so she still remembers / knows people she  sees on a  regular basis but does find everyday activities like using a phone confusing. She is now bed bound and has carers four times a day which is a great help with myself being the only one to look after her.

So why do a skydive. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a number of years but not got round to doing it. My best mate did it a couple of years ago for another charity so that and my mums deterioration in health has given me motivation / push myself (as it were) to make the jump.
