We are Survival International, the global movement for tribal peoples. We’re fighting for their survival around the world. We work in partnership with tribes and give them a platform to speak to the world. Tribal peoples need you. Let’s fight for their survival, together.

Story

Welcome to my JustGiving page!

This year I want to raise money for Survival International by competing in the 2011 Leeds Half Marathon. I took part in the race last year and it is a pretty tough course and I didn't do as well as I would have liked. This was largely due to the route taking in some truly heart attack inducing inclines.

This year I intend to do much better. I will derive additional fortitude from the knowledge that I am running to raise money for a truly worthwhile cause.

Survival International protects and promotes the interests of tribal people throughout the world. These people are often easy targets for exploitation by governments or corporations.

Their land might be invaded by loggers and others, as is happening to the Áwa tribe in Brazil. Or they might live on land rich in natural resources that large corporations wish to exploit, as is happening with the numerous tribes living in oil rich areas of Peru.

I personally find the stories of these people extremely moving, and I would urge you to visit http://www.survivalinternational.org/ to see for yourself.

Whatever the reason, the result for the indigenous people is almost always disastrous. Violence, discrimination, dislocation and exploitation are just some of the problems they face. By donating to this you will help Survival campaign for their rights and ensure that they receive fair treatment and the respect that they deserve.

Thank you for your support and for taking the time to read this.
