Story

Hi,

So, in 2012 I was diagnosed with a condition called Hemi Facial Spasm..by no means fatal but it had a devastating impact on my overall health, my family and my work.  As a result of some amazing surgery and some bits of Teflon inserted into my head, in 2016 I woke up in hospital halfway through a Welsh international to find myself cured.  My son was 7 at the time and it was the 1st time he'd seen me smile. That was a turning point for me, and the realisation that life is precious and fragile.

I served in the Royal Navy for a few years and for the past 25 as a cop. During this time I've worked alongside a fair few Royal Marines. It's fair to say, they are an inspiring and unique set of individuals.

So, 2022, I've hit 50 and figured there was no time like the present to try for an Iron distance event and while I'm at it raise some money for an extremely worthy charity.

Iron 2 SteelThis event is about testing yourself to the limit while fundraising for RMA The Royal Marines Charity, participating in a challenging and exciting iron distance triathlon race over one of the most iconic landscapes of the United Kingdom.Start Bay was a key training ground before the 1944 D-Day invasion of Europe.Operation Tiger D-Day rehearsals cost the lives of hundreds of American soldiers and sailors. The location has immense military significance, so we are looking for athletes that embrace both the spirit of comradeship and selflessness as embodied in the soul of the Royal Marines, as well as the mental and physical challenge of racing 226km over land and sea.
