Ironman UK 2014 · 20 July 2014 ·

Francis House supports more than 435 families of children, teenagers and young adults with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. We need over £5.8 million in charitable donations each year to continue to provide our services. Thank you for your support.

Story

On the 20 July at 6am I will be on the start line at the UK Ironman. By start line I mean being lined up in Pennington Flash with 2,400 other nutters in wetsuits. If you don’t know what Ironman is, it’s an endurance triathlon consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and then a marathon. Yes it is…and I am…bonkers. However being a youthful 39 !!... I figured now is time to get it in before I go back to being fat in my 40’s. The winner will complete this anywhere from between 8 ½ to 9 hours. Me…well I am hoping to get around safely, without medical attention and  under 14-15 hours. You have 17 hours to get around, after that you are a DNF (Did Not Finish). After 7 months of training 6 days a week plus the £400 entrance fee…a DNF is hopefully not going to be an option.

I am going to raise money for Francis House Children’s Hospice, a great cause and a place we have close links to at  my employers, Champion http://www.championgroup.co.uk .  Any kind of donation would be gratefully received by a special charity.
