Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Thought I'd take a few minutes to give you a rough indication of where I'm at and what I'm hoping to achieve.
I have, like most people, had some involvement with cancer within my family and close friends. Sadly, my grandfather - though the toughest person I've ever known - failed his fight against it and passed away 13 years ago to the day I'm writing this (4th April). It deeply affected me. How could this big strong guy become so weak from this?
2 years ago (14th September) I lost my Mam. A huge supporter of the charity, she was never seen without her pink ribbon pin badge. On the anniversary of her death last year, I made a promise to myself that I'd do something to celebrate all that she'd given me - I'd become a stronger person and more like my Mam.
The Great North Run (Half-Marathon) happens to fall on the weekend anniversary of Mam's death. It seems appropriate that I rise to the challenge and run this in Memory of Mam and Grandad - and make some donations to the charity in the process.
Started training (which isn't so easy for a large lad) in January - and Cancer Research UK accepted my offer of running for them in March. It's been a pretty long, tough road - but I hope I'll be able to make everyone (not least myself) proud.
I appreciate any small donation you can give to help the cause, and I also appreciate any personal stories you wish to share with myself or other viewers of this page.
