Story

Simon, the adventurer had his last adventure on the 3rd of February 2018. Words cannot describe the shock when we were informed he had died whilst on a night bike ride in Goring. We take huge comfort that he didn't suffer. It is so surreal it has not sunk in yet and there is an enormous 'Simon' shaped hole left in our life.

Simon was only 39 years old and we have since discovered that he was suffering from a genetic disorder called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).  The stress on his heart whilst cycling caused by HCM resulted in a fatal heart attack.  We are comforted by the fact that it was instantaneous and he was doing something that he loved at the time.  HCM is a treatable condition, however, it is only ever screened for if there is a family history or symptoms are linked to the condition as it requires an echocardiogram. We have chosen this charity as we wish to raise awareness of its symptoms so more young, fit and healthy people do not have to die.

We are comforted by the immense support we have received from the local community. Being in business for 20 years (the proprietor of Rotec Cycles) he was a well known character in the local community and so was his much loved dog Murphy. He had great plans, many adventures still to take.  We are so very sad he won't get to fulfil these but our family and his friends will do our best to fill his adventurous shoes!

Si, aka Bob, was a man who loved the simple things in life - the great outdoors, it was where he was happy - hiking, cycling or up a mountain. He didn't care sun, rain, wind or snow he would be there! It didn't matter as long as he was in the elements with his dog and generally getting caked in mud!

He also is a man that loved adrenaline-filled sport.  Since 2000 he has been building, racing, crashing and re-building F1 Brisca stock cars!

He will never know how much people cared for him, to him he was just Simon from Rotec and the F1 Brisca driver No. 92!

His adventurous spirit will live on. Simon, you made it to the highest mountain in the world, we hope the view is good.
