Story
I did it!!!! 5 hours, 34 minutes and 43 seconds later in 16 degree heat, I ran the 26.2 miles in the Flora London Marathon. What a day! The atmosphere, course and other runners were all incredible and this helped make the day even more special. Thanks to everyone who turned up on the day to support me - I really appreciated this especially towards the end of the course.
I decided to run the London Marathon in order to raise money to support Jewish Care's Holocaust Survivors Centre. This is a Jewish social centre for survivors who were in Europe during the war or came as refugees after November 1928.
The Centre provides Holocaust Survivors with a chance to meet and socialise with other survivors who have had similiar experiences. It is a place where they are made to feel very welcome, can have a meal, as well as partake in social activities and outings or to receive therapy if needed by highly qualified therapists.
Whilst researching for my dissertation on 'Jewish Resistance in the Holocaust' 14 years ago, I contacted the Centre and they allowed me to meet and interview survivors on whose testimony I based my work. It was an incredible journey that I went on with these survivors and to this day, their words still live with me. I have remained in touch with some of these people as well as the Centre and this is my reason for wanting to raise funds for them. The Centre and individual survivors have needs and I would like to help them financially to allievate these.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Jewish Care gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Your support is very much appreciated. Thank you.
