Story

NEWS!!! My website is now up and running. Please visit it on www.simonintheamericas.com

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I've always thoroughly enjoyed travelling and it's been a dream of mine for many years to visit the American continents and finally this dream will come true!

I will bike from Alaska to Urshuaia, Argentina. This will take me from the top of the North American continent to the bottom of South America.  The reason for this trip isn't a drunken thought one night in the pub or a desire to reluctantly punish myself but for something rather more admirable. I am doing it to raise money for the Help for Heroes charity.

Help for Heroes has made a deep impression on me since its inception. I greatly admire their work and it's an honour for me to be able to contribute to such a noble cause. Their hard work will inspire me throughout my trip as will thoughts of those for whom the charity was created.

What's more I am from a services family. My father served for 40 years with the army and my mother was also a member of the RAF. My brother is currently serving with the army and is a direct link to the reality of what this charity is about.

I have cast aside all thoughts about the current situation in our world and the role the forces of our country plays in it. The service men and women who go and do their jobs aren't the people who make decisions as to how the policies of the world are to be dictated, they do their job and they do it very well. It seems as though they don't recieve the recognition they deserve for working under such duress in circumstances many of us simply can't imagine. For those who pay the price for their commitment it must seem like a very lonely world and it certainly does us no harm to assure them it isn't.

I will depart in late July 2010 so there is plenty of time to donate and follow my reports about preparations I'm making for this epic trip. I'll keep you all updated as regularly as I can so thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to be in contact with as many of you as possible.

Take time to read up about help for Heroes and please sponsor me, whether it's through admiration or sympathy!
