Great North Run 2021 · 12 September 2021 ·

The Christie charity provides enhanced services over and above what the NHS funds. Your support can help us to fund life-changing and potentially life-saving projects that will benefit cancer patients both now and in the future.

Story

2020 should've been the 40th Great North Run, but as it was cancelled for obvious reasons, the 2021 GNR will now be the 40th - which just so happens to fall on my 40th birthday! Thus (especially as the mrs had already got a place, so I'm going to be in Newcastle that day, whether or not I was signing up for it myself) it felt appropriate that I should take part and try and raise a few quid for a great cause.

You may know that I actually work for The Christie (only in Finance, I'm not on the frontline!) so it's a place that means a lot to me. I've spent most of the last year working from home, but even from here I still get an insight into the fantastic work our Trust does.

There's probably not many people in and around Manchester who haven't either been treated by The Christie, or know someone who has been treated there. And those outside of Manchester might not have a direct link, but as a world leader in cancer care and cancer research, the work the Trust does spreads far and wide.

Money is tight for a lot of people right now, but anything you can give will help to get me over the finish line - this is twice as far as I've ever run before, and nobody wants to see a slightly overweight 40 year old crawling on his hands and knees through South Shields! So owt you can give will help spur me to keep going!

Thanks x
