Everyman Male Cancer Campaign - Keep Your Eye On The Ball 10K Run - London · 5 June 2011 ·

Everyman is an appeal run by The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). Every year some 10,000 men lose their lives to prostate cancer and over 2,000 others have their world turned upside down by a diagnosis of testicular cancer. These men are the reason we are fundraising for male specific cancers.

Story

Hello!

Basically, I just want to help.

Cancer has had a negative impact on too many families and I want to try to make a little bit of a difference.

Last year my fiancee, Claire, worked her little gym socks off and ran the Race for Life, which is a charity close to her heart. I was very proud of her and she inspired me to do a run.

I am a life long Millwall fan and season ticket holder and was shocked when our top striker Neil Harris was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He faught the disease and returned to the first team. He is now our record goal scorer and was influencial in helping us achieve promotion. He is a true legend. This is why I have chosen to run for the Neil Harris Everyman appeal, which helps to fight all types of male cancer.

I have to be honest, I didn't realise how far 10k was, and after mapping out a couple of runs I am a little bit nervouse. Still, I am training hard to get the best time possible as I will be representing Millwall on the day, and we are competitng against runners from other football clubs.

I know these aren't your 'normal' reasons but they are mine. I want to make a small difference and I need your help.

Thanks again.

Simon
