Simon Gatehouse is raising money for Willen Hospice
In memory of Jonathan Thorpe
We support the growing number of people in and around Milton Keynes affected by a life-limiting illness. We give our patients and their loved ones specialist, personalised care - free of charge. Only 13.8% of our costs are met by ongoing NHS funding, so we’re dependent on your support. Thank you.

Story

Having had the pleasure of working with Jonathan for the last few years, I always looked forward to talking with him; his warm, generous and dry humoured character was always evident and would brighten any day.

To learn that Jonathan was very poorly in 2019 was devastating for everyone but Jonathan kept smiling and thinking of everyone apart from himself to make sure his family were always in the best place possible.

Jonathan sadly passed away in May of this year having spent his final days at Willen hospice and will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

In remembrance of Jonathan and to salute his positive outlook on life I will be challenging myself to cycle the elusive 'ton' in one day; the cycling equivalent of a marathon, with all funds raised going to Willen Hospice. As an employee of Barclays Bank, all funds I raise will be £ for £ matched by Barclays to a maximum of £1000.

Cycling is my hobby albeit those who know me will attest that I am no Bradley Wiggins and so this will be no easy feat; the most I have cycled on one go before being about 60 miles. The world record for the marathon is around 2:17 and the 100 mile cycle is 3:13 in comparison; I'll be grateful to finish before it gets dark!

Thank you for your support.
