I have been living in London for the past 8 years where I have met so many people in the LGBTQ+ community that are affected by HIV or know someone that is. Some of these people have become my good friends, which makes this incredible charity very special to me.
With almost 30 years experience fighting for health and equality in HIV; the National AIDS Trust have the expertise and practical resources needed to make a real difference. They urge for more frequent testing of HIV for the chance of early diagnosis, and supporting those with the disease; providing effective prevention, and striving for universal access to treatment, care and support. NAT are dedicated to transforming the UK's response to HIV and AIDS; tackling the stigma and discrimination that many people still face by increasing public awareness, education and understanding. There are still so many people who are unaware they are living with the disease; some are too afraid to learn their status, and others that are too naive to think it could happen to them. We are so close to eradicating this disease, so it is our responsibility to help diffuse the stigma that surrounds it - we must collaborate, persevere, and aim to effect change because we can’t do this alone!
On Sunday 13th October 2019, I will be running 13.1 miles round four of London's most beautiful parks in the Royal Parks Half Marathon. I have never seen myself as much of a runner and I was not interested in running whilst growing up. However, over the past few years, I have been keen to set myself goals in all aspects of my life, so I am finally putting myself to the test! With much dedication and strict training over the next couple of months, I will take on this challenge, strive to achieve the best I can, and help make a huge difference for those living with HIV and AIDS.
I would be immensely grateful for your love and support to help me reach my target of £600. Please share my page to your social media and donate anything you can - NAT will make every penny count to ensure that we can make the greatest impact!
Much love,
Rowan x
