MAV's Ballroom Blitz Dance Champions · 11 November 2016 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 11th November rather than just attending the Medics Against Violence Ball as I have done on previous years I will be competing in the MAV Ballroom Blitz Dance Competition.
It was with excitement and trepidation that I agreed to take part and my nervousness escalated after my original partner had to pull out, I would like to point out that he hadn't actually seen me dancing before he had to exit stage left. Cue an anxious five weeks while a replacement partner was sought, during which the other couples were learning and practising their routine. After much searching the wonderful Shannon was found he has been very patient and we are trying to make up for lost time but as we have had half the rehearsal time of the other couples we need all the help we can get. Every £20 raised beforehand will equate to 1 much needed point to be added to the judges scores on the big night but more importantly will help raise funds for the fantastic MAV.
Medics Against Violence is a small charity founded in 2008 with the main aim of preventing violence. The schools programme which I have loved being involved with since our first schools visits in 2009 has involved myself and other healthcare workers visiting secondary schools to talk to pupils about the consequences of violence and to encourage young people to keep each other safe. The domestic abuse training programme (Ask Support Care) trains dentists, doctors, vets, hairdressers, fire officers and others to recognise domestic abuse and signpost victims towards expert help. The Navigator programme works in the Emergency department of Glasgow's Royal Infirmary to support people with very complex needs away from involvement in violence.
Any donation made is gratefully received and thank you for taking the time to read my story.
I'll post some more pictures from training to amuse you all. Fingers crossed we all make it to competition night in one piece, dancing is dangerous!!
