Story
In March 2019, I completed my first half marathon in support of the Institute of Cancer Research, a ground-breaking organization and a cause close to my heart, having lost my dad to cancer when I was 18. I feel driven to continue supporting the ICR based on their impressive track record of developing state of the art treatments and innovative strategies to stop cancer adapting and evolving. The ICR professionals are continuing to make startling progress in extending the lives of people with cancer. I am so thrilled to have been put on their team to run the London marathon 2021 - I feel driven to represent them as best as I can because their work deserves all the recognition it can get.
Cancer continues to tear families apart and can turn your life upside down when you least expect it. There is nothing more painful than watching someone close to you suffer so greatly. But there is something we can all do which is to support the specialist organisations and professionals who have the scientific expertise to try and fight the disease. The truth is cancer will not be obliterated by just hoping that one day it will stop killing - it is more powerful than that and requires an active and universal effort to defeat it.
The ICR have made incredible advances against cancer, but I can't emphasise enough that they need our support. The more an organization is funded, the bigger the potential for impact, and the more lives can be saved. I would really appreciate any donation you can give to help the ICR continue saving lives. Please spread the word, and all together, we may one day manage to destroy cancer for good. Thank you so much for your support, as I brace myself to run 42k for the first time! x x S
