Sion's Lands' End to John O' Groats

Lands' End to John O' Groats · 9 October 2018
Hi all!
This October I will be cycling the entire length of the UK from Lands' End to John O' Groats solo and unsupported in the hope to raise money and also awareness for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). As a keen sportsman all my life I regularly heard stories of young athletes becoming victims of cardiac complications due to underlying problems and defects. These defects have lead to serious heart problems and sometimes unfortunately, much worse. These are not elder individuals with a lifetime of self abuse to the body, but young, supposedly fit and healthy youngsters who show no prior symptoms of cardiac problems.
Unfortunately, many people are totally unaware of the scale that this is happening to young people all over the country, with at least 12 deaths each day due to undiagnosed complications. While I was aware of this statistic for some time it wasn't until I experienced it on a local scale that really made me pay attention and realise the severity of it. Many of these deaths have no prior symptoms and combined with such a young age it makes it very difficult to detect any problems. CRY are helping youngsters become more aware and proactive on the subject.
Your donation will not only mean more to me than I can express, it will also help to go towards providing Electrocardiogram (ECG) testing for youth people across the country, which can detect any irregularities and potential defects. This process can save lives, and nothing is more important than that.
Any donation (no matter how big or small!) will be hugely appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Sion.
CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young. By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions. See how your support can help by visiting www.c-r-y.org.uk
