Story
As I’m sure most of you are aware we tragically lost my Dad earlier on this summer whilst we were on holiday in France. My Dad and I were out running when he suffered a cardiac arrest.
Something I have struggled with is the fact I was unaware of what was happening and therefore unable to help.
That is why I have decided to run the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise money for The British Heart Foundation in memory of my Dad.
BHF have an amazing scheme called Heartstart where they provide CPR training at free sessions across the UK and I would encourage as many people as possible to attend one! It is an extremely important skill to have and could potentially save a life and prevent a family from having to go through the heartbreak that we are.
Unfortunately with Dad, he was suffering from undetected hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which means that CPR was unable to save him.
BHF also carry out research into cardiomyopathy and find ways to help people suffering from the condition to live normal lives. I would like to try and raise awareness for heart diseases such as this one which can go undetected for many years with such devastating results, if something doesn’t feel right please go and see your doctor to get everything checked!
The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures.
£24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target.
I am by no means a runner with my current longest distance being 5K so this is going to be a massive challenge for me but definitely worth it. Any donations to this amazing charity would be immensely appreciated and let’s beat heartbreak forever!
