In November of this year we will be journeying to Uganda with a team of GMP staff to work with the Stockport based charity Retrak. Another team will be travelling to Ethiopia. Africa has a huge problem with street children who are either abandoned by their parents or go to big cities to escape destitution at home. Retrak rescues street children through their hostels and drop in centres, aims to train the children or get them into education and also finds them foster parents. The GMP team will be helping to renovate local facilities but also to work with and get to know some of the young people.

The GMP teams last year raised over £50,000 for their trips and we hope to do even better this year. There will be a number of fundraising events but first off Sir Peter will be hosting a Chief Constable's Fundraising Dinner on 26th April at The Midland.  He will then be running in the BUPA Greater Manchester 10k run.  Some of the other fundraising activities planned are a concert at Force HQ, Craft Fayre, Cop Idol plus a Fundraising Day selling donated homemade cakes, handmade cards, donated books and raffles as well as many other activities.
