I’m also doing 25 push-ups for 25 days. Because...
Everyone knows someone who's finding things difficult. Some people show it. Some don't. I've dealt with my own mental health issues. I've seen family, friends, colleagues have moments, or days, or weeks that are tough. Or worse.
But all around us are people willing to sit, talk, care, help... This song is about that. In the lyrics. And in how it was made.
I've had the song for a long time. But I had a new idea for a choir part, full of people from all over, letting those around them know that they're there. I got friends to send me clips of themselves singing "know that you're not alone" and "you've got friends". Then I gathered a group of lovely people at my gym and got them to sing together. None of it done in recording studios. Just ordinary folk, reaching out.
And that's the thing. Helping someone who is struggling can often be as simple as saying, "sit with me for a while". Talk about things. Or stay quiet. Nothing fancy. Just human spirit and kindness.
Mind is a charity that works to help people know that they're not alone and give them tools to manage mental health. I hope the love and fun that went into this song will turn into a few donations. Give nothing. Give a little. Or give a lot.
But. Most of all. Give someone your time and a friendly hand. Be kind. You never know what someone is dealing with under the surface.
