On Sunday 29 July, Team LCC ride 100 miles to raise vital funds for London Cycling Campaign.

Story

So, I've done something rash and entered the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 at the end of July. That's 100 miles (or 160km for us more metrically minded).

It seems a very long way right now: it's about three times as far as I've ever cycled in one go. I guess I'm going to be cycling a little bit further than I've ever cycled each week for the next six months - I'm excited! :)

I'm also excited to be participating to raise money for the London Cycling Campaign (LCC). Having been terrified (but keen) to cycle in London for as long as I've lived here, with a little push from a friend, I started last summer. It's made getting around much quicker and way more fun, plus I've gotten a bit fitter and I can feel a teensy bit smug that I'm zipping around without adding to London's air pollution.

LCC and their local chapters do so much to make London less intimidating for everyone feeling a bit wobbly about dealing with London's roads on two wheels. From 'bike trains' for commuters and healthy rides over weekends to bike maintenance workshops, they make getting about by bike a little less intimidating.

But the thing that LCC do that has the biggest impact for the most people is campaigning for safer routes for cyclists, so that everyone from eight to 80 can enjoy getting around London by bike. There have been a lot of improvements in the last few years, but there's still so much to do!
