The Dart 10k was the first, and is arguably the finest, 10k swim on the open water calendar. It's a journey, not a race, and there's room for everyone in the river.

Story

[Edited after the 2022 swim was cancelled. I'll now be participating in the 2023 event!]

On 2 September 2023 I will be taking part in the Dart 10k, a 10km swim along the River Dart from Totnes to Dittisham.

I’ve always enjoyed a dip in the sea and with a dodgy knee giving me an excuse to avoid the running track, I naively thought a 10km swim should be the next challenge. Months into training and I now realise how bonkers swimming 10km with my head down in cold water is going to be.

However, I’ve definitely caught the open water swim bug. It’s great for the mind and the body and is a reason why the charity I’m raising money for is so great (details below). Please donate to keep me motivated in the final month and during the swim!

I am raising money for Level Water, a charity who use the power of swimming to improve lives for children with disabilities. Starting with 1-1 swimming lessons, they provide opportunities for the children to learn to swim. From physical development to social and emotional confidence, swimming is a vehicle to change their lives for the better. And they believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn to swim and fall in love with the water.
