Simplyhealth Great North Run 2019 · 8 September 2019 ·
I'm running the Great North Run for the first time in memory of my loving father. My dad was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2013. He underwent a Lobectomy and received chemotherapy. After treatment, my father was in remission.
Then in 2018 we were told my dad had a separate cancer (non secondary) in his bowel. He underwent a Colonectomy and chemotherapy. This time we were told treatment had not worked and the cancer had spread to his Liver. Still we stayed positive as a family and thought he would "live" with cancer but in August 2018 my father passed away in his early fifties. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.
The work Macmillan do is outstanding. From meeting the family, providing counselling and support, up until end of life, these nurses are angels. I do not know how these fantastic nurses return to work everyday after losing a patient. (but they do!). Our nurse was called Barbara and she was brilliant.
I need to reach my target and will be grateful if you donate no matter how small to my page. Check out my page to see updates on my journey (who knows how I will perform on the BIG day but I'm grateful to be ALIVE.
