The big idea is that a Shed is a safe, friendly, and inclusive environment to share old skills and learn new ones; talk about the issues and experiences that affect our lives; and build new social networks and friendships. It’s been shown that having a sense of purpose and avoiding social isolation has a positive effect on health and well-being in later life. Sheds are intentionally informal in approach and welcome men (and some women) from all walks of life – whether from manual or knowledge working backgrounds – including those who can be the hardest to reach.

Story

This event will be on Thursday 1 April. Starting from Mayflower Park, we'll travel down Southampton Water, turn right and go anti-clockwise round the Isle of Wight and back to the start - on water-skis.  The best viewpoints will be Hythe Pier, Lepe Country Park, Milford-on-Sea, Tennyson Down, the Spinnaker Tower, Lee-on-the-Solent and of course Mayflower Park for the finish. We have too many members for everyone to take part, but all of our members over 65 are up for it, and we have several younger members to drive the boats. We hope you will give generously for us not to do it, through my JustGiving page.
