Fight Bladder Cancer was founded and is run by people affected by bladder cancer. We provide a dedicated website written in plain English with facts and guidance, run a confidential forum and a 1 to 1 buddy service. We also campaign for better awareness and support medical research.

Story

The Fight Bladder Cancer charity supports people affected by bladder cancer, campaigns for better awareness and also helps fund research to improve the diagnosis, treatment and outcome of people who have this much ignored cancer. Bladder cancer is the 4th most common type of cancer for men. 10,000 people are diagnosed with bladder cancer each year in the UK and 5,000 people in the UK die from it.

Brian suffered a spinal injury whilst serving in the Parachute Regiment (2nd battalion) in Belize, which ended his career. This left him partially paralysed having to adapt to living in a wheelchair. However, this didn't stop Brian, as he became heavily involved in wheelchair sports and swam for Great Britain in the Seoul Paralympics in 1988, where he achieved a silver medal.

He then went on to coach the GB wheelchair rugby team and he was the European Development Officer for wheelchair rugby promoting the sport in Europe. He took the GB team to the Atlanta Paralympics in 1996.

Brian did not stop there, taking up scuba diving and becoming an advanced diving instructor and helped many to take up this sport. He was truly motivated in everything he did and inspirational to many.

In October 2014, Brian was diagnosed with bladder cancer and died at the age of 54 in July 2015, after losing his battle to cancer.

Whilst on my working holiday in Australia I have decided to do a tandem skydive on the Mid North Coast. I am taking this opportunity to raise money for the Fight Bladder Cancer charity and 100% of the funds raised will be going to the charity!

Seeing as my Dad jumped out of planes for a living, it should be a breeze for me, right? 😂
