Why am I doing this?  Am I mad?  Jumping out of a plane at 10,000 ft .....

I have always longed to do a skydive; imagine, being able to fly like a bird - what an exhilarating experience!  I am told that the whole experience from take off to landing lasts about 25 minutes. I will experience 40 seconds in freefall from 10,000 ft before the parachute opens at 5000ft giving me approximately 5 minutes under the parachute. I will be freefalling at 120mph so I should get a good view of the beautiful scenery of Oxfordshire!

Working for Deafax, a charity helping deaf people of all ages lead fulfilling lives, I decided to make that leap this year as it is our 25th Anniversary and also because we need to raise much needed funds for the work we are doing with deaf youngsters.  I have worked for Deafax for nearly 20 years, working my way up to eventually become Chief Executive. I love what I do.

I have a dedicated and committed team - staff and volunteers - and we have seen first-hand the importance of innovative technologies in increasing opportunities for deaf and hearing people.  We use these to remove barriers for deaf people by improving literacy and by building life-skills and enabling integration within the wider community.
