Story
Our daughter, Skye, was stillborn in May 2019 at 26 weeks gestation. We went from excitedly planning the arrival of our first child, wondering what colour we should paint the nursery and how we'd cope with sleepless nights, to having to plan a funeral instead.
Giving birth to a dead baby is something no parent should have to go through.
The UK has one of the worst stillbirth rates of high-income countries. Many of these stillbirths are preventable – with more research and medical attention. Tommy's do incredible work funding research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth, and believe that every parent deserves answers when their baby dies. They also run specialist clinics across the country to support high-risk pregnancies and couples who've suffered miscarriages or stillbirth.
We're going to be doing a number of events and initiatives to raise money for Tommy's and get people talking about baby loss. These include:
- Sam will be running the Endurancelife Northumberland marathon in February 2020 (https://www.endurancelife.com/northumberland)
- Ali is launching a new podcast to help break the silence around baby loss (https://footprintsonourhearts.com/)
- Ali will be running the Endurancelife Northumberland half marathon in February 2020
- Run.Swim.Bike.Hike in July 2021 (@run.swim.bike.hike)
We'd appreciate any donation you can give in memory of Skye to help Tommy's give parents the answers they need and the babies they long for. If you'd like to help us fundraise and join Team Skye, we'd love to have you on board!
Much love,
