Provides free holidays for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families, and recently bereaved siblings

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Two years ago we entered a team into our first charity run. We're now taking it a bit more seriously and have set ourselves a much bigger target to reach.

We've also got a great charity to which donations will go - The Donna’s Dream House Charity in Blackpool is a locally based trust providing free holiday experiences for children and teenagers with life-threatening illnesses and their families, and for recently bereaved siblings and their families.

Once upon a time, a beautiful and desperately ill young girl made three very special wishes.  She left a little red box at her bedside where they were found - with messages of love for her family and her young husband - after she died on New Year’s Day, 1996.  Donna Curtis had just turned 20.  She had spent her last four years fighting cancer.  In that time Donna saw the suffering of many terminally ill children, and vowed her legacy would help them live a little more happily in the time they had left.  Her parents, Len and Barbara Curtis, have made it their labour of love to fulfil their only daughter’s fairytale dream - as a lasting tribute to her courage (and if truth be known theirs).  Len, chairman of the resort’s private hoteliers' association admits, ”I was ready to jump off a pier.  My family businesses, it all suffered.  It’s a wonder we didn’t go under.”  Instead, they set about making the dream of their late daughter a reality.

Whilst the voluntary team of Donna’s Dream House provides the expertise, enthusiasm and administration, it is the generosity of many companies, organisations and individuals in raising and donating money, that makes it possible to bring not only sunshine and fun into children’s lives, but a sense of wonder, adventure, laughter and much needed holidays in Blackpool for the whole family.

As Donna’s Dream House is operated by volunteers only, the administration cost is about 1% to cover legal requirements of the Charities Commission.  So 99p of each pound raised is used to provide the holidays and accommodation costs plus related support work.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
