Isle of Wight Challenge 2015 · 2 May 2015 to 3 May 2015 ·
We did it, the 106km Isle of Wight challenge, Louise and I dug very deep, and managed it in 18hours, to say it was tough is an understatement!
There were times especially during the wet and windy night when we could have easily given up, but we are both stubborn and determined and battled on to the bitte end. At which time there was a part of our body that didn't hurt.
Thankyou for all your support, it means a lot.
Toubkal 2015
DAY 5: Today the Trekkers started their decent through the thick snow down to Imlil Village. Unfortunately, due to the adverse weather they weren't able to see a lot as they desended, however they had their sights firmly set on the well deserved rest that greated them at the bottom and they even got to explore a little of Marrakesh at the end. Well done everyone!
DAY 4: The group had another tough trek today, battling not only the tough terrain but also winds of up to 50mph ! They couldn't quite reach the summit of Quanoukrim due to the winds (being blown around at 4000m wasn't the most pleasant experience for them!) but still, another amazing effort from all the Trekkers! They are currently resting ready for their decent tomorrow.
DAY 3: Today they all made it to the summit of Toubkal! It was an extremely tough 10hr trek to the top, with their ice picks and crampons being used to the max in order to tackle the thick snow and steep accent. However, the panoramnic, unrestricted views of the Marrakesh Plains, right round to the Sahara was definitely enough to make them forget their aching legs (well for a second at least!). They are now having a well deserved rest before more trekking tomorrow.
DAY 2: Today the Trekkers started the assent to the Neltner Refuge. Reports being that it was a sunny but cold 7 hour trek up through the Mizane Valley to the 3,208m refuge in Neltner. Their aim was to also practice some winter skills and squeeze in a short acclimatisation walk (as if they hadn't done enough walking already!).
DAY 1: The guys have spent today acclimatising by trekking through the Imlil Valley, passing the tiny hamlets and villages of the ethnic Berbers (a herding and farming community). They found it to be quite a tough walking day due to the high temperatures and reached a height of 2,489m up Tizi Mzik before returning to the guest house to prepare for the following days. I'll keep you posted as they go.
Katrina is climbing Mt Toubkal In Morocco, North Africa's highest mountains at 4167m and Quanoukrim at 4088m. Then Katrina and Louise are walking the Isle of Wight Challenge which is 106km, we walked London to Brighton last May which was 100k and was one of the toughest things we have we have ever done, our feet have only just recovered, and yet we are aiming to do a similar challenge, to raise money for our very worthy Charity, Macmillan Cancer Suppport. So please sponser us , we will truly be challenged to our limits.
