More about Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund

You can find their page here http://www.justgiving.com/project/1787325

They describe their work as follows. At the time of writing they have already raised over £100,000 to help the victims of the disaster.

What is the problem the project is addressing?

Tsunami waves caused major destruction in northern Japan. Trains have been shut down across the country and current estimates are 1000+ people have died. We are working with International Medical Corps, Save the Children, and other organizations on the ground to provide support. Our partners on the ground are working hard to provide immediate relief. We will post more details of the specific use of funds as soon as possible. All donors will get email updates on how their funds have been used.

How will this project solve the problem?

This project will disburse funds to organizations providing relief and emergency services to victims of the earthquake and tsunami. GlobalGiving is working with International Medical Corps, Save the Children, and other organizations on the ground.

What is the potential long-term impact of this project?

Major disasters always require a huge amount of international support to provide relief and long term recovery efforts. In the case of Japan, these initial funds will help survivors and victims get necessary services.

More about Just Giving

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Every penny of every pound that a person donates through JustGiving goes straight to their chosen charity (if it's eligible for Gift Aid). For this service, JustGiving charges a 5% fee that comes out of the Gift Aid that we reclaim for charities, and a £15-a-month membership fee.

On average, charities in the UK spend between 15p and 25p to raise every new £1 by traditional means such as direct mail and street fundraising. Reclaiming Gift Aid is also costly, and many charities do not even try. The Charities Aid Foundation estimates that over £700m in Gift Aid continues to lie unclaimed every year. JustGiving reduces costs on both fronts, which is why charities find it such good value for money.

So please dig deep and donate now.
