Story
Jane, Lucia, Daniela and Pippa are taking part of "Sleep Out for the Shelter" to help raise money for London's homeless.. Spending one night sleeping outside in the centre of London, fundraising towards helping those that sadly have to endure much worse sleeping conditions every night!
On the 21st of October we will be sleeping in the gardens of St. James Church, Piccadilly.. but we are the lucky ones. We'll be safe, in a secure place with friendly people. We'll have breakfast the next morning and then head back to our homes and loved ones.. The West London Day Centre supports people who are not so fortunate. It provides a wide range of facilities and advice, and this appeal is for their winter night shelter: a well-established scheme for keeping people safe, warm and fed during the cold winter months.
The night shelter runs for 8 months of the year: 13 churches and one synagogue take part, offering a hot meal, a warm safe place to sleep and breakfast for 15 homeless guests every night. The shelters are run by volunteers but professional workers coordinate them and help the guests find accommodation.
The funds we raise will go directly towards the coordination of the shelter and supporting guests to move into longer term accommodation, find employment and begin a new chapter of their lives!
