As you likely know by now, Slogging It supports The Lords Taverners as our charity of choice. The Lords Taverners run a number of programmes across the community that engage disadvantaged and disabled youngsters through cricket. Not only does this give these young people a sporting chance when they may otherwise struggle, but also offers these same young people the opportunity to learn invaluable life skills, meet new people and socialise through a mutual love of the greatest game. 

Challenging tough subjects such as knife crime and gang culture through their incredible inner cities programme Wicketz, this programme brings together young people from different backgrounds to engage with each other through cricket.

The Super 1's programme encourages youngsters with learning and or physical disabilities to enjoy cricket in both indoor and outdoor scenarios depending on the time of year. Allowing children who would otherwise have very little sporting opportunity to engage with each other in this way, have great fun and learn skills such as team work and camaraderie along the way brings such amazing joy, and more importantly a release from what otherwise may be a less enjoyable lifestyle. 

Table Cricket again looks to serve the disabled community, offering a chance for these youngsters to learn about cricket through play on a specially designed table adapted from a table tennis table. One of the greatest games we have ever seen and enjoyed as fortunate able bodied people, this game is great fun for all who take part. 

The charity doesn't only benefit young people through their programmes. It has become evident to us when engaging families at LT's events just how much these programmes offer to the families and wider networks of those involved. The benefits to the young people and the associated happiness and joy it brings means that parents not only get a little respite while they enjoy the sessions, but improved mood and outlook because of these programmes offers huge amounts to the families as well. 

We are hugely honoured to call The Lords Taverners our charity Partners and look forward to supporting them for many years to come through a number of different challenges, initiatives and our work on the Slogging It podcast.
