London Landmarks Half Marathon 2019 · 24 March 2019 ·

Colleagues from Havas and Havas International are joining Team Tommy's in the London Landmarks Half Marathon to support Tommy's and help continue their vital work to save babies' lives.

Story

Jason and I are taking part in a 13 miler for the London Landmarks Half Marathon for Tommy's baby charity.

Yes, you read that right.

Some of you will know that before our two amazing boys arrived there was lots of heartache and I suffered recurrent miscarriages.  Eventually I had some tests and it was discovered that I had something called Lupus Anticoagulant meaning that my immune system produced antibodies in pregnancy that made my blood clot too much.  My babies weren't getting what they needed through the placenta and couldn't survive.  They were all early miscarriages but being told that a pregnancy can't continue and there is now no heartbeat is heartbreaking.

Throughout my two successful pregnancies I had to take lots of medication, including injecting myself with anticoagulants daily.  They were both stressful and anxious pregnancies and with the first I didn't believe I would be taking a live baby home until we did so.

Tommy's fund research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth, and provide pregnancy health information to parents. They believe it is unacceptable that one in four women lose a baby during pregnancy and birth. They want every parent to have the best possible pregnancy outcomes and to take home happy, healthy babies.

I think it's unacceptable that women have to have three miscarriages until any tests are carried out on the NHS.  One miscarriage is one too many, but in cases like mine and many others, many could have been avoided.  Knowledge is powerful.

So, in March 2019, we will be taking on the massive challenge of completing the London Landmarks Half Marathon.  It's a huge distance.  I'm completely unfit, overweight and it's going to take lots of training and be tough.  J used to run, and back in the day represented his county and completed a marathon.  But that was a few years ago and now he fits the same bracket as me!

We'll update this page with our progress and hope you will all spur us on.

Please give what you can. Your support will make a massive difference and really help us to make it to that finish line! Thank you so much
