Our objective is to give the public an alternative to giving money directly to beggars. Giving money through OxPAT ensures that the money is spent on things that will help individuals in need.

Story

Thanks for clicking the link to my page! :)

First of all, I know it isn't October or January. But as you probably all know I drink a shit ton of alcohol no matter what time of year (or day) it is, so I've decided to try something I've literally never done before and go a month without drinking, to test myself and to raise some money for people who really need it.

Walking from work to the bus station after my last pub shift I counted six people sleeping in doorways in just a 3 minute walk. Last night was the first time it went below freezing, it's only gonna get colder, and I'd really like those six people to survive the winter. So I wanna see if I can do something more productive than a handful of change and a rollie.

Therefore I'm going to do what may turn out to be the most difficult thing I've ever done outside of a university and go for a month without alcohol, and ask you lovely people to support me by giving them dollar (which I will also be doing, so as to not be a massive hypocrite).

This is genuinely going to be a challenge for me - besides the fact that I work in a pub - because as most of you know I am a really heavy drinker, so I'm also hoping to break some bad habits, and try to curb the damage to the second hardest working liver in the galaxy, at the same time as hopefully helping some people out. I could really do with your support, so please consider chucking a pint (or pitcher, or even just a half pint)'s worth of dollar to charity to spur me on.

Anything you donate will go to Oxford Poverty Action Trust, who give 100% of their donations to various causes in the area, as all of their administration costs are covered by the council (hence why I've chosen them over bigger charities like Shelter)

That means that every single penny will go directly to helping people, be it socks or the night shelter electricity bill. So anything, even just £1 (£1.25 with gift aid!) will make a difference. Because they support a variety of initiatives, supporting them also helps fund education, day centres, medical care, rehabilitation and work training and placements. You can find out more about them here: http://www.oxpat.org/

Thanks again for taking the time to read my page, please please feel free to share it with anyone who might miss it and be inclined to help out, and I'll be posting updates through the month :)

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity [EVEN IF I DON'T MAKE A MONTH]. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
