Sobi - Scarfell Pike climb for Histiocytosis UK · 10 September 2019

Histiocytosis UK funds research into uncovering the causes of Histiocytic diseases. These include Langerhan's Cell Histiocytosis & Haemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis. Seeking early diagnosis, effective treatment and a cure as well as providing information support.

Story

Sobi are taking on the challenge of climbing Scafell Pike in the Lake District to raise money for those living with rare diseases. Sobi, which has its offices for the UK and the Republic of Ireland (RoI) in Cambridgeshire, is dedicated to rare diseases.

Up to 20 members of the Sobi team will be donning their hiking boots in September to climb the almost 1,000-metre peak, which is England’s highest. The funds they raise will go to Histio UK, a charity that specifically funds histiocytic research and supports those living with all forms of histiocytosis in the UK & RoI.

Sobi UK and RoI have announced their latest fundraising challenge to
coincide with Rare Disease Day, which takes place on 28 February 2019, and aims to raise awareness of rare
diseases. Hundreds of patient organisations from around the world will hold activities to mark the occasion.

Sobi is a leading biopharmaceutical company dedicated to bringing
innovative therapies and services to transform the lives of patients with rare diseases and their families.

This challenge will be the UK and RoI team’s third trek to date, having previously tackled Wales’ Mount Snowdon and Carrauntoohil Mountain in the Republic of Ireland.

Neil Dugdale, General Manager
for Sobi UK and Republic of Ireland, commented:

“We are delighted to mark Rare Disease Day 2019 with the announcement of this challenge. Histio UK do vital work for people living with complex rare diseases, so we are delighted to be supporting them with this challenge.  We hope to fund raise as much as possible to support their laudable work.

“Climbing Scafell Pike will certainly be tough, but every step will be worth it if it helps advance support and treatment for those living with some of the most complex rare diseases.”

Lynn Jackson,
Executive Director of Histiocytosis UK, added:

“Despite the misery it causes, this group of rare and complex conditions struggle to raise awareness or generate substantial research in medical
circles. We are privileged that the Sobi UK team have chosen our research and information support programmes to benefit from this amazing challenge.”
