Brain Tumour Research is the leading voice of the brain tumour community and focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. We are campaigning to increase the national investment in research to £35 million per year and funding sustainable Centres of Excellence across the UK.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I will be running the London Marathon on Sunday 2nd October 2022 for Brain Tumour Research in memory of one of my best friends from University Ria who battled with a Glioblastoma Grade 4 Brain Tumour for 2 years 7 months. During this time Ria underwent 2 major brain surgeries, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and private immunotherapy in Germany amongst trying other treatments before it took her life in August at age 25.

Ria was the most positive, inspiring and determined girl despite all the obstacles she faced on her short journey. Everything she did was with a smile on her face. Ria is and will be hugely missed by everyone that knew her.

I will be using Ria's resilience, grit and strength to push myself 26 miles around London.

I will also be taking on other challenges in 2022 to help raise some vital funds including:

  • 2 Half Marathons (Loughborough Half Marathon in April 2022 & Leeds Half Marathon in May 2022)
  • Dry January
  • A sky dive (April 2022)
  • A 140 mile bike ride from Loughborough University to Essex (Ria’s home town) with some of Ria’s family and Loughborough team mates - Sacha Brinkley, Danni Jackson, Amy Longhurst, Toni Smith, Alice Hassall, Rebecca Hopkins, Aofie Hurley, Emily Clements and Ellie Betteridge (anyone else who else want to join the pack let me know!)
  • Also happy to consider any other challenges people throw my way (…for a sponsor)?!

Please support in any way you can to try and make the UK one of the best for treating brain tumours rather than one of the worst!

Brain tumour research receives less than 1% of national funding despite accounting for most occurrences of cancer in the under 40's.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
